THEASERVICE

New life for proven locomotives.

Deep modernization extends service life by 15 years and cuts fuel consumption by up to 20%.

An engineering base built for heavy rail work.

THEA SERVICE modernizes diesel and industrial locomotives to current European standards of efficiency, safety and ecology. We work with rail carriers, industrial operators and fleet owners who need their existing traction to stay in service, not to be replaced.

The work runs on our own repair base near Prague. Machining, assembly, electrical fitting and commissioning happen under one roof, which is what keeps schedules and documentation under our control rather than a subcontractor's.

What modernization actually changes.

The targets we design each project against, and what the operator gets back.

+15years

Extended service life

Frame, bodywork and running gear are restored to a documented condition that carries a further 15 years of operation.

−20%

Lower fuel consumption

A modern power unit with electronic injection control cuts diesel burn by up to a fifth against the original engine.

AC/AC

Higher power and reliability

Modern transmission and traction control raise available tractive effort and cut unplanned downtime.

IIIBstage

Emissions and safety norms

The rebuilt locomotive meets current ecological and safety requirements for European operation.

1cab

New ergonomic driver's console

Redesigned console, visibility and climate. The cab stops being the weakest part of an otherwise sound machine.

Scope of work

Six directions of modernization.

Each project is assembled from these, in the combination the fleet actually needs.

Caterpillar C27 diesel power unit

Power unit

Replacement of the diesel engine with a modern unit, new mounting, fuel and exhaust systems, electronic control and monitoring.

Locomotive electrical cabinet and wiring

Electrical equipment

New cabinets, contactors and wiring looms, modern protection and diagnostics, cabling replaced to current insulation classes.

Driver's cab and console layout

Driver's cab and console

Ergonomic console, new instrumentation and displays, improved visibility, heating, air conditioning and noise insulation.

DAKO brake system assembly

Brake system

DAKO brake equipment, new air preparation and piping, revised brake rigging with full test and certification.

Locomotive bogie with wheelsets and suspension

Running gear and bogies

Bogie frames, wheelsets, axle boxes and suspension restored or replaced, geometry measured and documented.

Repainted locomotive body outdoors

Body and repaint

Corrosion repair, panel and hood replacement where needed, surface preparation and repaint in the operator's livery.

From diagnostics to handover.

Six stages, each closing with a document the operator can hold on to.

01

Diagnostics

Full technical survey of the locomotive: frame, engine, transmission, electrics and running gear, with measurement protocols.

02

Modernization project and documentation

Scope, technical solution and drawings agreed with the operator, including the approvals the rebuild will need.

03

Dismantling of outdated units

Removal of the units being replaced, cleaning and inspection of the frame and everything that stays on the machine.

04

Installation of new systems

Fitting of the power unit, transmission, electrical equipment, brakes and cab, with fitting work documented as it goes.

05

Testing and running-in

Bench and track testing, running-in of the power unit, adjustment of control and brake systems to specification.

06

Handover with passports and acceptance acts

The locomotive is handed over with technical passports, acceptance acts and the operating documentation set.

Three things we do that most workshops do not.

Retrofit with ETCS and control digitalization

Installation of ETCS equipment together with digitalized control: onboard diagnostics, telemetry and remote condition monitoring. The operator sees the state of the machine between depot visits, not only during them.

  • ETCS onboard equipment installation
  • Digital control and event logging
  • Online diagnostics and telemetry

Mobile service teams across the Czech Republic

Field repair teams travel to the depot, the siding or the industrial track. Work that does not require a workshop is done where the locomotive stands, which is what keeps downtime measured in hours instead of weeks.

  • On-site repair and adjustment
  • Scheduled maintenance at the operator's track
  • Minimized downtime and transfer cost

Conversion of electric locomotives to hybrid drive

Older electric locomotives are converted to battery hybrid drive, so they can work sections without catenary and cut energy cost on shunting duty.

Flagship product

TS-CH shunting diesel locomotive.

The TS-CH is the fullest expression of what deep modernization produces: a shunting locomotive rebuilt around a modern Caterpillar power unit, AC/AC transmission and a Siemens traction generator, with a new cab and current brake equipment.

It works heavy industrial shunting on 1520 mm gauge and meets Stage IIIB emission requirements. Below is the technical specification of the delivered machine.
